Our pug Sake is going for a consult for his patella - he is a grade 3 - and is starting to really develop a limp. He is 2yrs old. Has anyone had this surgery in Rhode Island - and if so by whom?

I've heard that the Ocean State Vet Hospital is great. My sister brought her golden there ..... and they were wonderful. He was bitten by a tick and developed Erlicia (I don't think I spelled it correctly), it's a form of lyme disease, but more deadly. And a neighbor brought her dog there when he broke his leg and loved the care he got.

Good luck ... hope everything turns out okay.smile

I have also heard some problems with that hospital. We are going to a travelling orthopedic who goes to several area vets - we are going to meet him on 4/29 at the Tiogue Vet clinic. The ortho's name is Dr. David Clark. Any info?

Well- we had the consult with an orthopedic vet tonight. He examined Sake and told us that there was no need right now to put him through a surgery when he did not seem to be in pain and it was not slowing him down. If/When it seems to be affecting him - we should come back. When we got Sake it did state he was a grade 2 on both sides. Now one side is fine and the side we were concerned with was a 2-3. He popped the knee in and out and Sake did not even respond to this. He did suggest that we start him on some Glucosamine. What kind does everyone use here? Now that we do not have to do the surgery - it is off to find a playmate for him. Yippee!!!!! we are going to look at a new friend Friday.

I personally love Ocean State...my husband works there, and for surgeons you can't go wrong with the doctors they have there.
