HO, HO, HO, here we go with the Honolulu Pug Meetup Holiday Event. This fun and festive party will take place at Waikele Community Park. Don't forget to bring water for your dogs and mats/chairs to sit on. WE NEED MORE TABLES. If you can make it and can transport a "portable" table, that would be awesome. Please indicate in your RSVP if you can bring a table (or two). WE APPRECIATE THIS HELP...There will be LOTS going on...

This is what is happening. We are planning several things:

First--POTLUCK. Your organizers will be bringing the potluck table, trash bags, and paper goods. We will also be bringing a pot luck dish. When RSVP'ing indicate your potluck item (main dish, dessert, side dish, etc. or be more specific).

Second--PUG SILENT AUCTION. Pat will be handling this. If you have pug and/or dog items you want to auction, bring them down and see Pat when you get there. You keep the proceeds for any item you auction off! Plus, you can also get some pretty cool stuff too!! Some items we sold in the past include: leashes, dog clothes/jewelry, books, postcards, pug dolls, containers, figurines, and more--PUGS GALORE, wooooo hoooo!!! Sounds like fun? There's more...

Third--PUG SANTA. If you want to participate, bring a doggie gift valued at $10. We will do a grab bag. If you have a "multi-pug" family, you don't have to bring a gift for each pug (unless you would like to then please feel free). You can also participate as a "family pug unit."

Wanna participate? PLEASE RSVP, don't forget to list your potluck item. Hope to see you there.

Any questions?? Call Dawn at 284-3267 or Nate at 284-3218 or Pat at 221-0216. Or email us, Dawn and Nate.

This meet up will be held at a private venue. A huge Mahalo to Nolan, Teri, Maru, and Mickey for hosting this pug party at their residence in Mililani Mauka. It is always such a treat to be here and we appreciate their generosity. It is a potluck BBQ! They have a gas grill so it will be safe for the puggies. Bring our own drinks. Bring chairs to sit on--mats are not suggested.

Meetup fee for this event is $5 per family (like at the Sept. meetup). The fee will be used to maintain the meetup website and for medical or foster needs of any rescue pugs that may need assistance.

The party starts at 10 am and will wind down at 2 pm. YEAH--lots of play for the pugs; lots of good company for the people. We need a couple of "volunteers" to help set up at 9:45 am. Please email us if you can volunteer for set up.

Also, we will have games and a costume contest with PRIZES for the puggies! Plus, there may be a few surprise.

Sounds like great fun, right!? Well, be sure to start planning your costumes and RSVP today!

Since this is a private home, we are not listing the actual site on the web. When you RSVP, we will send detailed directions via email with home and cell phone numbers for Teri. The party will be held in Mililani Mauka and the mapquest link will give you directions to the Mililani Mauka McDonald's. Look for "pug" signs to find your way.

When you RSVP, please indicate what potluck item you plan to bring. You can also bring stuff to grill.

Again, if you have any questions call Dawn 284-3267 or Nate 284-3218.

See you there!!

I just got word on another doggie event coming up in a couple of weeks. Here are the details:

An event after my own heart where canine love and couture meet! Valerie Miao, owner of the Valerie Joseph boutique and one of Phoebe's doggie aunties, is a great supporter of dogs and the people who love them. She's done several doggie events in her fashionable boutique in the Ala Moana Shopping Center. Her store is right below Barnes and Noble on the street level of Ala Moana Shopping Center. Not only does she sell great fashions, accessories, and makeup but she is now also featuring doggie clothes and other items. She supports small, local businesses so it's a great thing and a win, win for everyone--mostly the dogs.

On October 11, she hosting "PUPPY LUV." It's from 4 to 6 pm and should be a fantastic event for those who are interested. Below is a tentative schedule featuring treat sampling, lessons on dog CPR given by a veternarian, and training tips from experts...They are also giving away an amazing puppy luv doggie basket featuring treats from Dog House Hawaii, a VJ doggie outfit, and an 8 x 10 framed photo of your pup(s).

I'm adding this event to the calendar for those who are interested. Phoebe might not be there but mommy is going down to support the event and to go shopping ;)...Remember, the more we support these events, the more events we'll have to support. So, if it's lazy Sunday afternoon and you don't have anywhere to go...CHECK IT OUT!

PUPPY LUV at VALERIE JOSEPH, October 11, 4-6pm

4:00-6:00 Dog House Hawaii treat sampling (Phoebe loves these homemade, natural treats made with love)

4:30-5:00 Doggie CPR (learn how you can save a pooch's life)

5:00-5:30 Doggie Training (experts show how a well trained dog can change your life)

We’re very excited that Eve Anderson is graciously opening up her oceanfront property to us pug lovers on Sun Sept 20 9am-1pm. For Eve's privacy, only meetup members can see the location on the event calendar and meeting reminders.

The address is 41-505 Kalanianaole Hwy, Waimanalo.

It's approx 1.5 miles from the Sea Life Park entrance, on the beach side.

There will be balloons marking the entrance. A large monkeypod tree is across the street, opposite the gate entrance. There is a honu (turtle) on the gate at the entrance. Pat will monitor the gate entrance area, then Nate will direct people where exactly to park.

We are requiring RSVP’s so we can estimate how many will attend to plan accordingly.

To respect her privacy and generosity, we ask everyone to follow these basic “rules” during our outing:

1. Be prompt! Allow plenty of time to arrive here on time-this is a priority because there’s a whole system we have to adhere to when entering/exiting her property. She uses 2 gates that one of us will have to man during arrival/departures, so it’s a time consuming process and none of us wants to spend the entire time monitoring the gates as people meander in anytime.

So, we are requiring EVERYONE to arrive between 8:50-9am and be willing to stay until at least 12:45-1pm. If you cannot adhere to these stipulations, you will not be able to attend or you will have to park along the roadside across the street.

2. Up to 20 cars will be allowed to park on her property, after that, the rest may just park along the roadside across the street. If you are inviting guests, please carpool. Parking spots on the property are reserved for pug members. Be sure to lock your cars and pugs MUST be leashed while crossing this very busy street and until safely through both gates and onto the property.

3. She has stated that she wants no gifts, but as an avid dog lover, she said that if we want to do something, to please donate to a charitable dog cause, so a collection of $5/family is requested, payable to Pat upon entering-please bring exact change.

4. Please do not promote this as visiting the “Magnum PI” house since Eve has grown tired of that reference all of these years. As you can imagine, there are still fanatical fans who try to access her property, surely convinced that Tom Selleck will appear any minute. So limit this discussion to ourselves, not to her.

5. There are picnic tables-we will bring a tablecloth, plates, napkins, cups and utensils and everyone can list their potluck dish or drink.

6. Please bring water for your pug, water bowls, lawn chairs or mats.

7. It will be low tide at 8:30am (perfect!), so wear your swim suits and bring plenty of towels. She has a hose for rinsing off. Pugs MUST be monitored closely while on the beach. There was an incident in the past, with a Lab group, where the dog ran down the beach and stole a chicken off of the neighbors grill!

8. For recreation, there is tether ball, vball, tennis courts, playground equipment-anyone using this, esp. children, have to be monitored at all times. Eve is not liable for any accident, injury, falling coconut, etc. while on her property.

9. Bathrooms will be available-signs will be posted to access them in an outer bldg. You have to enter a small gate that overlooks the seawall, so pugs that follow you to the bathroom have to be in your control at all times so as not to jump off of the seawall.

10. Eve asked that no one pick the flowers or seagrapes please.

11. Please REFRAIN from bringing any dogs in heat, large dogs, or dogs that are not properly socialized. (Small socialized dogs are fine.)

12. We hope everyone will be respectful and follow these guidelines-this will allow us to continue the use of this site for the future-we want to make a good impression. Eve LOVES pugs, we want her to love the owners as well…And, we want to be invited back again!

13. Please print these guidelines and keep our cell phone numbers handy: Pat 221-0216, Dawn 284-3267, Nate 284-3218. Mahalo!

Say Aloha to a great summer with an End of Summer Pug Party at the Beach!

Plan for the day:
Since it's a long drive for most people and everyone needs to pack beach stuff, we are NOT doing a potluck. . .Let's Keep It Simple and enjoy watching the pugs play on the sand and maybe even swim!!

General details:
We went here for several years and had beautiful days and awesome times. Also, this is a beach where dogs are allowed so no chance of anyone ruining the fun by kicking us off the beach! You may want to bring leashes (not retractables) to use and that can get "wet."

Don't Forget:
LOTS and LOTS of water for your puggie
Drinks and snacks for you and your guests
Beach umbrellas (for shade --not many trees around)
Beach mats, Sunscreen, Towels, and Swimwear (in case your puggie jumps in!)

Any questions?? Call Dawn at 284-3267 or Nate at 284-3218

DIRECTIONS:
From town--Ewa Bound:
Take HI West
Take Exit 8A cutoff; follow Wahiawa H2 North (heading toward the North Shore)
Take Wahiawa/Schofield cutoff; follow Waialua signs--head toward Waialua
Take Waialua/Mokuleia cutoff
Follow Farrington Hwy
--on your left, you'll pass Kaupe Street (in Waialua), Otake Store, Kaala Healing Arts, and a gas station
Then, you'll come to a "junction"--TAKE MOKULEIA
You'll pass Waialua High School and continue on a very "scenic" drive along Farrington Highway.
Take Olohio Street
Then, take a left on Crozier Drive
There is a small, gravel parking lot across 68-623 Crozier Drive--beach access is right there!

Let's kick off the summer by kicking back at Waikele and enjoying some summer "pug love..." We are skipping the pot luck this time since it is warmer these days. We'll save the potlucks for the fall coolness...Til then, let's all get a good dose of pug hugs and kisses.

We are back to a Saturday at Waikele again. Remember to bring water for your puggies...chairs/mats for you to sit on. Plans for the day include letting your pug play with many others of his or her "type." We can't wait for the snorts!!

Give Dawn 284-3267 or Pat 221-0216 a call if you have questions. Hope to see you there!!
