Does your pug have a lavish imperial flair? The Baltimore Puggapalooza group has been extended a royal invitation to the Duchess of Windsor's 113th Birthday Celebration!

The Duchess was a pug lover! The Duke and Duchess of Windsor were probably the most famous pug fanciers in the 20th century. They brought their four pugs, along with their pugs' personal chefs and "pooper scoopers", with them to almost all social activities! These pugs were even fed from silver bowls!

Events of the Duchess' birthday celebration will include... Free Admission to the Duchess of Windsor's Memorabilia Museum... as well as Pet Adoptions by Animal Rescue, Inc., Zippy Larson's "Duchess Walking Tour", House Tours, Royal Doggie Strut hosted by Pretentious Pooch, Duchess' Birthday celebration for the Dogs and the Fit for a Duchess Cocktail Party! (Some events are donation based with proceeds going to Animal Rescue, Inc.)

The elite event officially begins at 2 pm and ends at 6 pm. The doggie events will begin at 4:00pm... see details below...

The Royal Doggie Strut will be a red carpet walk... one stately dog will be crowned the Dutchess' Royal Pet 2009 based on which dog best exemplifies the Duchess' life. Hint: The Duchess is known for her fashion sense and jewelry collection... since we want to be very respectful of our pugs in the heat, maybe less fashion and more jewelry? Use your best judgment and do some diligent research! The Royal Pet will receive a crown and title for the year!

The Duchess' Birthday celebration for the dogs will feature a wild and crazy doggie-safe cake for the dogs to enjoy... and destroy. The basement of the Government House will act as a staging area for our pugs before they walk the red carpet... and it's air conditioned to keep our royalty cool! ; )

Come join us on June 7th! Let's present a distinguished display of Royal Pugginess! I hope to see you there!

P.s. Since we are limited to an attendance of 25 pugs... please RSVP your pugs for our counts. : )

    •  I read an article on the Sun about this and thought that we were meeting at noon since that is when the article said the festivities began. I showed up around noon, walked around and didn't see anyone and left around 12:45. I came home and checked the site and saw we were supposed to meet at 2, but did not go back downtown. Sorry that I missed everyone.

THE IDEA & CONCEPT WAS GREAT...IT WAS JUST A SHAME THAT 25 PEOPLE RSVP "YES" WITH 16 PEOPLE ON THE WAITING LIST WITH HOPES THAT SOMEONE WOULD CANCEL AND ONLY 6 PUGS SHOWED UP...VERY UNFAIR! THE PRETENTIOUS POOCH PUT ALOT OF TIME AND EFFORT INTO PREPARING FOR IT, ALONG W/CHRISTINE, THE ORGANIZER AND THE VENDORS THAT TOOK THE TIME TO COME SET UP TOO....I MYSELF HAD TWO FRIEND WITH 3 PUGS EACH THAT REALLY WANTED TO GO, BUT COULD'NT BECAUSE IT WAS SUPPOSABLY FULL.......WHAT A SHAME!!!!!!! ANYWAYS, ROSE AND I STILL HAD A GOOD TIME AND ROSE MADE A NEW FRIEND "FAITH" AND WE GOT TO SEE LOUIE.....

it would have been more fun if more people had shown up. 25 RSVPed, but sadly, only five of us showed up. it has the potential to be a great event, though, and i think it would be a good event to try out next year.
    •  We arrived at the Duchess' museum just a couple minutes past 2 pm. We found that we were the only pug "party" there. We hung out for a few minutes, looked at the museum briefly, and spoke with the people at the booths in the parking lot across the street. We still did not see any other pugs, so we left around 2:30.
    •  Thank you to everyone who came out for this special royal birthday celebration! : ) It was definitely a fun and unique experience! : ) I hope we made The Duchess of Windsor proud! We were spoiled by the crew of The Pretentious Pooch! Our adorable pugs thoroughly enjoyed their strut on the red carpet and devoured their birthday cupcakes of cheddar and hot dog! : ) Thank you, thank you! Congrats again to Lisa on taking the crown with her precious little pug, Rose! : ) And... a huge "well done" for all of our four-legged participants and their devoted owners!!! : ) You are all so great! ; )
