I had to bring Cookie to the emergency vet clinic tonight-I am still not clear what is going on with her but it has been very scarey-tonight she had diarrhea and then start dry heaving and trembling-when she started the trembling I could not get to the phone fast enough to call -we were there for some time because they wanted to keep her overnight for testing and an iv but I did not want to leave her so they starting running testing while I waited -when they took a fecal sample she passed red diarrhea and my heart just sunk- they ran various testing-there is some sort of infection and beyond that I did not understand a thing they said-they gave her numerous injections and sent me home with more medicines and they put a fluid pack under her skin to keep her hydrated-she is sleeping now but I don't think I will be able to get much sleep-want to keep an eye on her-they will send all info to Cookie's vet and I will be following up tomorrow.

Cookie saw her vet today and got another shot-he said it was her colon and they are not sure what caused it to be inflammed and bleed but that she would be Ok-she can only have soup broth for now and then prescription i/d food -she has to be monitored for 48 hours but he said she did not need more fluids-the fluids and meds they gave her last night helped which meant I did not have to leave her at her vets-which I had anticipated might be necessary from what they told me last night-all sorts of meds(3) I have to fight to get her to swallow at home-she is a magician at getting out of swallowing pills-when they took her temp the thermometer had blood all over it so that again was scarey but her vet reassured me the meds and restricted diet for now will resolve it. She got to play hookey from day care with me all day while Molly is at day care.

I'm so glad she is doing better. It is so scary when they are sick as they can't tell what hurts. I'll be praying for a speedy recovery.

Oh my goodness... I have not been keeping up with the message board this week and just read about Cookie... We are keeping her in our prayers. Kathy, you are in our prayers too, I know that horrible feeling of not knowing and not being able to fix them! Please keep us posted on her recovery.

Kathy, I'm so sorry to hear about Cookie. I've been away from my computer for a few days, & I'm so sorry that I didn't know what was happening. You must have been almost ready to have your nervous breakdown! It's so terrifying when you don't know what's wrong with them. They can't tell us, & they look so pitiful when they feel bad, that it's heartbreaking. Add an occassional whimper in there, & before long Mom is about to lose it.
It's wonderful to hear that Cookie is going to be fine. It's awful to not know what caused this to happen to her. Was the vet able to give you any idea at all? Could it have been something she ate? As closely as you watch her diet, that's probably not it. Could it have been caused by a virus? Maybe she has an intestional bug? It would have to be a nasty one to cause bleeding.
How are you doing? I know you're going to worry about her for a very long time after she recovers. That's just natural--we still treat SidneyMaie like she's made from glass.
I imagine that MissMolly was pretty worried about her big sister, too.
If there's anything I can do, just call me!
Many prayers whispered for you all.
