Hi everyone,

I have a question for those of you who feed honest kitchen..how much should I feed Cooper and Maddie. Maddie is about 30 pounds and Cooper about 25 pounds. Also, should I be mixing some of Maddie and cooper old food in with it after I rehydrate the Honest Kitchen ?

Thanks ! Nicole

Nicole, Tyson and LuLu-both about 20-22 lbs. get a generous 1/2 cup twice a day. And yes, you should mix it with the old food, just as if you were switching to a new kibble. I think what I did was 1/4 cup honest kitchen, rehydrate, add 1/4 cup old food for about 3 or 4 days, then 3/4 of a half cup (sorry I'm sure there's a better number for that) and 1/4 of half cup of old food mixed in for a few days.
FYI-I noticed when I switched them to it that they have been having more bowel movements (like an extra one per day) so if you notice Cooper and Maddie going more often, I guess it's not uncommon. The customer service lady just said that if I were concerned I could add a probiotic to make sure their tummies are aborbing the food properly.
I imagine that Cooper and Maddie are a little bit more active than Tyson and LuLu, so you may want to start with the higher end of the spectrum of the feeding guide, which is 2 cups per day, and watch their weight to see how it works out.

Hi Nicole,

I think the recommendation for my pugs' weight class was 1/2 cup twice a day. They had too many poops (not runny just too many) so I took it down to 1/3 cup twice a day. I would start with what the package recommends and go down if necessary. Extra poops are a sign of too many calories for them to handle. You'll probably see a slight weight loss as well which generally happens on this type of food.

I did a straight switch from Innova to HK, no weening. The weening seemed too difficult since one food was kibble and one not. However, if you do this and your puggles start to have loose poos then i would add in a little of their kibble.

Like Becky stated, you might want to add a probiotic like Great Life Pro+ Enzymes. I'm sure there are others out there, but this is the only one I've used.

I'm not sure about the oz. measurement, I just use a regular old 1/2 cup measuring cup.
Just to give you an idea, here's my routine:
Turn the water on so it gets warm
Put 1/2 teaspoon of The Perfect Form (HK supplement) in each bowl
Add 1/2 cup of HK food
Mix 1/2 cup warm water with food
Set timer for 8 minutes
When timer goes off, mix again-just to sort of break it up so it's easier to eat
And serve biggrin
When you're mixing with the old food it doesn't have to be exact, just approximate so their tummies can get used to the new food.
Hopefully this helps, let me know if you have more questions!!

Thanks Becky, we followed your direction but i was confused because of the honest Kitchen website stating "A full standard US Measuring Cup of dehydrated food (which is 8 oz by volume or 4 oz by weight) will hydrate to make about 1lb of fresh food." but then fiqured it out.

We make a full cup of food and tried it with both Maddie & Cooper and Cooper stuck his nose up to it, but he does this commonly with any food--sometimes we think he's just not hungry s we'll try it again in the morning. He didn't want his normal food either--vet seems to think he's a once a day pup or it depends on his activity level during the day as to how hungry he is.

We got two of each trial package to try with him to see which he liked best. We started with the chicken and this morning he ate a little of it and then seemed disinterested, same with his normal kibble and yogurt mixture. He is one of those dogs you could definately free feed and have no problem but with Madde around that's just not possiable she's a pig. We'll try our luck tonight.
