Thanks a million !!! I just let her out and now she's sleepy so went and put herself to bed in her crate. She's quite content so I will keep my ear on her all night but I think she's just fine now.

If you are really worried you can check her temp and keep an eye on that as well as gum color and refill. I think she will be fine. The benadryl will make her sleepy. Let us know how she does

Thank you so much Brandi. I gave her a good once over when she went to bed and all looks good. She's nice and sleepy now so she should have a good rest. Her crate is right beside my bed so I will hear if she needs me in the night. I kind of thought that allergic reactions were immediate but i guess not - good lesson learned.
Thank you Shirley - I think we are good. I play the calm, rational one on tv but in real life I get a little panicky when I think there's a problem ![]() |

Thank you for the responses pat and Brandi. I have given her a 25 mg Benadryl and will keep a close eye on her. This is a really high dose. How much does Ching weigh? I doubt she is 25lbs, and this dose is a tad higher than the highest recommended per pound dose for a 25 lb dog. |

Amber - I have an emergency kit that my vet put together for me for dog shows and such and he also recommends 25 mg for any of my Pugs for a bee string. My main question was whether or not it would be effective 9 hours after the sting. I also have a prescription for Pred for a real emergency but she did not present with any sort of emergency symptoms. Brandi's recommendations have worked well and she is sleeping peacefully with lots of colour in her gums and no fever.

There is a wide range for dosing anywhere from 0.5 to 2 mg per pound (1 to 4 mg/kg) orally two to three times daily or 0.5 to 1 mg per pound (1 to 2 mg/kg) IM, IV or SC twice daily. So for a 10 lb pug you can give 18mg for a 15 lb pug you can give 27 mg, she gave 25 mg which is fine
Edited to add: you can also use Diphenhydramine to treat motion sickness and vomiting Edited by Brandi on Nov 8, 2009 12:23 AM |

Thanks for asking Shirley. Ching seems to be right back to normal this morning but Stuffie threw up in the night so now I don't think it was an allergic reaction but maybe a stomach bug. Stuffie seems fine this morning as well so it doesn't seem to be anything terribly serious. Everyone ate breakfast as normal and we all went for a walk about an hour ago with everyone enjoying themselves so I think we are good.

We call a round of stuff like that The Pug Bug around here, seems to happen now and then for no reason and be gone just as quick. Glad all is back to normal in your world! ![]() |
